| President's Message Dear CAGT members and colleagues:
While I am thrilled to have the opportunity to lead the
organization, I realize I have a tough task ahead of me living up to the standard Kathy
Milne has set for the CAGT President's role. Kathy has been a significant contributor to
the association for many years; and more hands on as President over the last four years.
Kathy, thank you for all you have done, and I look forward to "leaning" on you
in your new role as past president.
We have had quite a winter 'financial' season. The Bank
of Canada announced the average household debt was 1.48 percent in November 2010 and by
January 2011 it had risen to 1.50 percent. These numbers are huge. Canadians are
struggling to keep on top of their finances and more of them are looking for financial
literacy education.
At the CAGT, we foster an environment of networking,
sharing of information and educating our members on current topics and trends through our
events. We operate in this way to help you provide more information to your customers and
clients. At our upcoming Credit Conference 2011: New ideas new visions we will be
highlighting emerging concepts, fresh ideas and issues facing our industry. Our monthly
dinner and education evening in April Understanding the past, present and future of
privacy in Canada will feature subject matter experts in the area of privacy. We know
Canadians are looking for more information on how to protect themselves from fraud and
need more education on how to manage their personal finances.
CAGT has brought on a couple of new members to sit on our
Board of Directors. With these new additions we have been able to broaden the depth of
knowledge we will be presenting to you. I am confident these new Board members will be
making a valuable contribution to our organization.
Remember to register at http://www.cagt.ca
for our April 5th dinner and at www.cagtconference.com for our Credit Conference on April 13th.
I am looking forward to seeing everyone at our upcoming
April events, and the value doesn't stop there. May's event will be wildly informative as
we have people coming in from across North America to speak on Fraud, and Cyber crime. We
are already hard at work on October's dinner meeting, and should be equally exciting.
Remember, if you have any questions, or ideas on topics
that you would like to hear more on, please speak up!
Yours truly,
Jeffrey Schwartz, President
Credit Association of Greater Toronto |
